Message from Governor, Roger Sullivan
Welcome to South Carolina’s Home for OPTIMISM
Welcome Optimist International Members, and all who choose optimism as the light you shine the days of your life. Look through these pages and explore the many different ways our Optimist Clubs bring opportunity to young people all across South Carolina.
Then grab hold of a project you like, reach out to a Club whose members will delight in your interest and exercise the obligation that comes with your optimism – the obligation to share it!
If you are an Optimist Member, take a few minutes to appreciate this culture of service of which you are an important part.
If you are not (yet) an Optimist Member, find reasons here to let us know about your optimism and your interest to join others making your community even better. A particular distinction of South Carolina Optimists is our historic leadership in support of childhood cancer – you will see some of that in every one of our Clubs.
Our Optimist world is a little like Alice’s journey into Wonderland. The outer ring, the appealing entryway is our own OPTIMISM. When we exercise that optimism and join with others who also see life beyond our own needs we find the inner circle of OPPORTUNITY to accomplish things that only teamwork makes possible.
When we mobilize our optimism as a force for good, and with our teammates we turn opportunity into achievements for the children and youth of our communities, we find the next and proud inner circle where the OBLIGATION to apply our optimism to opportunity becomes a badge of honor. That is the world our Optimist Members embrace.
So…Optimists, let your pride show so others will want to join. All others, please accept this invitation to turn your inner optimism into an official force for good.
Let’s all make 2026 a shining example of what optimism can accomplish.
Sincerely,
Roger
Roger Sullivan, Governor
South Carolina Optimist District
